UAVs are changing the ways volcanologists work. It's hard to imagine getting close enough to be able to see that there are *five* active vents at the summit of Pacaya at the moment. A sensational day yesterday with the University of Bristol Earth Sciences students studying volcanology #UoBGuate2020
Man! I miss Guatemala 💔 Thank you Prof Matthew Watson, Ailsa Naismith, Matt Purvis and my coursemates for making #UoBGuate2020 the best field-trip to date!
It's time for a new story of hope and optimism. Watch 'The Great Realisation' by Tomfoolery youtube.com/watch?v=Nw5KQM…

BLM protestors took down Edward Colston’s statue 56 hours ago. Since then Belgium has taken down King Leopold II, London’s taken down Robert Milligan, Liverpool Uni will rename its halls, Plymouth will rename a square and memorials for Windrush have been planned. Protest works.
The audacity of Shell asking YOU what YOU’RE willing to do to reduce emissions. 🙄 They’re showing you RIGHT HERE how the suggestion that indiv choices - not systems - are a main driver of climate change is a fossil fuel talking point. Yes, make good choices. Reign in FF corps.
Volcanoes erupt all the time. Many are harmless and elicit nothing but joy. Others are entirely destructive and engender horror. But most eruptions inspire fear and awe together. How do volcanologists handle this emotional paradox? Me, for The Atlantic theatlantic.com/science/archiv…
