Yesterday I visited UK-funded health programmes in Tanzania. The UK is investing £15m into healthcare systems to help Tanzania but to make us safer too. We’re also investing £12m to family planning to help enable women to decide for themselves whether and when they have children

Today Foreign Minister January Makamba January Makamba and I officially opened the UK High Commission office in Dodoma.

The office will enable closer working between the UK and Tanzania, strengthening our historic partnership 🇹🇿🇬🇧

I underlined to the Ugandan Minister for Justice today that people should be free from persecution, regardless of their sexuality, and stressed our concern at Uganda’s draconian Anti-Homosexuality Act. The UK will continue to stand up for human rights around the world.

The UK wants to see a democratic and prosperous Chad 🇹🇩. I met President Deby, PM Masra and MfA Annadif to underline UK support for peaceful and transparent elections. I also officially opened the British Embassy UK in Chad 🇬🇧.

Yesterday I visited eastern Chad and the Sudan border where we have seen a crippling humanitarian catastrophe unfold since the conflict began. We are almost doubling UK aid to support those in desperate need.

Today we celebrate the huge impact of Girls' Education Challenge.
Over 1.6million girls have accessed learning including over 65,000 young mothers, almost 160,000 with disabilities, over 200,000 who had never been to school, and over half a million living in fragile and conflict affected places.

As famine looms in Sudan, the UK is at the UN to warn that 5 million people - primarily children - could suffer catastrophic hunger as a result of the conflict. We call on the warring parties for an immediate ceasefire and to allow aid to reach those in desperate need.
