PoMS Annual Report 2023 = a fascinating insight into pollinators in the UK. Below you can see results of insects counted in two habitat types, agricultural & gardens, showing proportion from each group across all years of the survey (2017-2023). See @ ukpoms.org.uk/sites/default/…

A composite image of just two seconds worth of insect migration in the Pyrenees! You can see that the vast majority are flies, although there's a dragon on the far right. We recorded 17 million (!!) insects moving south each autumn through this 30m wide pass. Paper:

A beautiful hummingbird hawkmoth. These dayflying moths are highly migratory & are currently migrating south towards Africa for the winter! Part of the 17 MILLION other insects we saw migrating: Paper: royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs… But they're also vital pollinators... 🧵

Globe skimmer dragonflies migrate from India to Africa each autumn in search of puddles to lay their eggs in. They travel over 3000km across an ocean! But what is more amazing is that tiny midges ride these dragons on their journey! 🪰🐉 New podcast: podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/willa…
