Flies are truly wondrous, some even have mirrors for noses!
This is a male Metopia species of Sarcophagidae. He will bask on sunlit bramble leaves, presumably hoping the sun will glint off his nose to attract a female!

I just learned of the two graduate students injured in a shooting during the Entomological Society of America
