Had the enormous pleasure of reviewing two books on the Congo, students, elites and decolonisation: 'Students of the World' by Pedro Monaville 🦋 @pedro-monaville.bsky.social and 'The Lumumba Generation' by Daniel Tödt. Reading them together was inspiring, lots of interesting questions raised. Links below

For me the highlight of today’s opening #UgandaAt60 was the chance to listen to a fascinating discussion about the very early days of Ugandas independence, given by Miria Obote, Joyce Mpanga, Martin Aliker & others. 1/

Why do African scholars or activists insist that Europe/N. America have to study & understand Africa well (objectively, neutrally, in context—whatever)? What would be the benefit of Euro-America (media, academia) being fair& balanced in their study of Africa? Answer: NOTHING

My mother Joyce R. Mpanga will be speaking at the inaugural Sarah Ntiro Memorial Lecture on the 1st December 2022 at Makerere University. Sarah Nyendwoha Ntiro (Auntie Sarah😁) was Uganda's first woman graduate. A regular guest to our home, I remember her as a kind and loving "auntie". 1/

A Licence To Phil is a poetic rendering of the world through the unshaded lens of Philip Matogo. In it, Matogo has drawn a line in the sand and crossed it as he charts taboo subjects concerning sex, politics and counter- culture.
