This is a minor but important incremental shift. However it is schools, media, parents, etc who proliferate the use and exchange value of Ofsted grades-therefore watch out for the banners that now say ‘Outstanding in Personal development’ or Outstanding in 3 out of 4 categories…

Just a reminder that rewards can actually harm intrinsic motivation. Children don't need certificates, stickers, prizes for things that they enjoy doing for its own sake. Just recognise, acknowledge and verbally praise a job well done, good effort etc. It's cheaper too. 😎

I can’t deny that I do not miss the feeling of the first day back. I’ve never left education but I have spent time where I make it work for me. It’s about a life balance & not about a work/life balance. Make your life come first. Work to live your life. Don’t live to work.

Adrian Bethune MCCT 👏👏👏 Developing and nurturing children's intrinsic motivation is so important...letting them achieve because they want to, not because of what they might get. We need to show children the power of intrinsic motivation...succeeding for ourselves, not for external praise.

Adrian Bethune MCCT Yes! We talked loads about this at INSET. We are not taking the confetti approach with praise and rewards, just for doing good things and the right things.

Let’s not forget that while Ruth Perry’s family, friends & colleagues were grieving, top Ofsted people- who didn’t even bother to contact them- received fantastic pay bonuses. And let’s not forget Spielman’s disgraceful comments on Woman’s Hour.

Adrian Bethune MCCT I spent some years designing company award schemes. Note- award not reward. Your penultimate paragraph is spot on. It’s what employees told us they valued. Anything more is icing- although we did have good icing!

What a damning inditement of @ofstednews with so little coverage “Ofsted complacent after head's death, says review” bbc.com/news/articles/…

Aspiring to be happier doesn't make people unhappier as people have claimed. The problem is judging how happy we are (feeling we should be happier at certain times). The key is to accept our emotions and relax into the moment as it is. Interesting read greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/h…
