Adrian Bethune MCCT My 10 yr old had a very harsh conversation with me the other day about how I am on my phone too much.

It's generally engaging with my Twitter community or sorting emails but it sets a terrible example, especially as I tell her she can't go on hers...

Working to rectify it.

On this note, my wife and I have realised we are addicted to our phones. So, to set a better example to our two kids our phones don't come out now before the school run and go away after school until their bed time.

And, I actually feel MUCH better for it.

‘Because children grow up, we think a child’s purpose is to grow up. A child’s purpose is to be a child. Life’s bounty is in its flow.’ (Tom Stoppard)

On a first reading, I found Oliver Burkeman wise. These days, it bring reassurance and invaluable perspective. Love this book.

I wish everyone working in education could read this book. So much valuable advice from some of my favourites including Adrian Bethune MCCT and Natasha Devon 🌈💙 I know I will be dipping in and out of it for years

'if leaders decide to set about changing the norms of the school it can be done, it’s just not a very straightforward process, and it’s not one that yields immediate, rewarding results.'

A social view of behaviour - fascinating article ⬇️

Is Haidt right that social media is behind an epidemic of teen mental illness?
Quick answer: there is no quick answer. These are complex intersecting phenomena & measurement is hard. But saying this doesn't sell books!
I recommend Eric Levitz's 🧵picking apart some of the issues:

1) I did a deep dive on the debate over whether social media is ruining teens' mental health. TLDR: The evidence is much weaker than Jonathan Haidt suggests, but not as negligible as his critics claim.

Wonderful to meet with my original collaborator, Adrian Bethune MCCT, today. Now we have dogs, humans don’t play a key role in photos. His is the clean one.

Rarely has a woman so plainly and eloquently squished a posh man in a knitted eggcup jumper trying to claim the world has gone mad with wokeness. The perfect clip to watch with your cup of cocoa this evening. Delightful.

Talk, talk, talk.

To your baby, to your pre schooler, your primary-ager, your teenager, your sibling, your partner, your parents, your neighbours...

It's what makes us human.

Good grief, they're not scholars, they're children. Just because we can do something, it doesn't mean that we should. Young children are not mini-adults, we can't complain about children not being 'school ready' if we're not giving them what they need when they need it.

Adrian Bethune MCCT Scan them, figure out which have different fonts in and irregular font sizes. Those are plagiarised, so hand them back.

Now do a spell check, any that come back without any, those are plagiarised, so hand them back.

Then you'll only have one at most to mark.
