We’re here in parliament today for our Dry January event with the APPG on Alcohol Harm talking about Dry January! #DryJanuary
Fantastic to join Christian Wakeford MP and Alcohol Change UK to hear more about their work on alcohol harm. Lives can be destroyed through addiction - we must ensure that there is prompt access to support for those who need it.
Great to attend Alcohol Change UK's Dry January & zero alc tasting event in Portcullis House. Thanks to Christian Wakeford MP for highlighting how it's been over a decade since we've had an alcohol strategy, which is urgently needed as we're seeing record high deaths from alcohol.
Amazing turnout today at APPG on Alcohol Harm and Alcohol Change UK Dry January low and no tasting event. Fantastic to see so many faces wanting to get involved, try a low or no drink or want to learn more about Dry Jan and how to tackle alcohol harm.
We had an amazing turnout at our APPG on Alcohol Harm Dry January event with Christian Wakeford MP to talk all about Dry January and low and no alcohol-free drinks.
19 days into #DryJanuary and this week popped into the event in Parliament hosted by Alcohol Change UK - have just seen the photo in which it is clear I've substituted the alcohol with chocolate 😂
I attended the Dry January reception. APPG on Alcohol Harm Alcohol Change UK Lives can be destroyed through addiction, so great to see the range of low and no alternatives on offer and hear how Alcohol Change UK are helping people reset their relationship with alcohol.
We were disappointed to see the Health and Social Care Committee evidence session on the prevention of alcohol harm only receiving evidence from organisations funded by the alcohol industry this week. Here’s our response:
We support the Chair of APPG on Alcohol Harm on the exclusion of evidence-based public health voices in this week’s Health and Social Care Committee evidence session on alcohol as part of their prevention inquiry. We look forward giving evidence in a second, impartial session on reducing alcohol harm.

Cancer Research UK on the decision to freeze alcohol duties at the Budget: "the freeze runs counter to public health considerations. (1/3) The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released the latest alcohol-specific death statistics, announcing that there were sadly 10,048 deaths from alcohol in 2022 in the UK – an all-time high, up 4.2% on the previous year, and 32.8% higher than when compared to 2019.
(1/3) Thanks to @maggie_erewash for asking Andrea Leadsom about her Dept's assessment on introducing an alcohol strategy following the shocking Office for National Statistics (ONS) alcohol-specific deaths statistics yesterday, that there were over 10,000 deaths from alcohol in 2022 in the UK, an all time high.
