New love death and robots short?

Rev. Benjamin Cremer I have always said that the opposite of love isn’t hate, but apathy. Here we have both. A speaker spewing hate and a Republican Party that’s apathetic.

Imagine thinking certain choreography at the Olympic ceremonies “mocked God,” but blatantly racist and demonizing rhetoric towards human beings created in God’s image, all met with thunderous applause from many who claim to be Christian at a rally, was somehow not “mocking God.”

The difficult task of this moment is to not allow the hate we are opposing make us hateful too. If we believe dehumanizing people is wrong, then we must not dehumanize others, even those with whom we disagree. The difficult task is to be boldly precise without dehumanizing.

Trump's defenders say he's not referring to a firing squad. Does that make his remarks acceptable? Not even close. Even if he "only" wanted his opponent — whom he calls "very dumb" and also wants to put in front of a military commission — to be at the receiving end of hostile

'And what does it get spent on?' he asks. Uh, the billions in subsidies and government contracts that launched your companies?

I propose we move from “you can’t be a true Christian if you vote for ________” to… You can’t be a true Christian if you don’t follow the Sermon on the Mount.

People out here voting for someone who said they eating cats and dogs. And that's not even the worst of it.

Ugh. Really? What's wrong with our country?

If more people who claimed to bear Christian witness watched #thechosen (at the minimum) what a better world we'd be in.

When we Christians find ourselves elevating kings and ignoring the voices of the prophets who are calling the kings out, that’s when we know we are reading the Bible incorrectly. Or perhaps, that’s when we know we aren’t actually reading the Bible at all.

When we Christians are more known for our support of presidents than we are for our support of the poor, the immigrant, the marginalized, and the oppressed, that is when we know we are following someone other than Jesus and we have a lot of repenting to do.
