On Aug 2, 1990, Iraq launched a full-scale invasion of Kuwait, occupying the country within 24 hours. Saddam Hussein’s aggression didn’t stop there—his sights soon turned to Saudi Arabia. In response, President George H.W. Bush initiated Operation Desert Shield on Aug 7, 1990.
