So thankful for the great high school and college science teachers out there! I had Mrs. Gonzalez in high school & Dr. Ness, Dr. Wong & Prof. Wyrick in college. And now my goal is to be a great science teacher (and continue as a scientist)!

Love my IRACDA postdoc! It’s an NIH-funded 3 or 4 year teaching postdoc (UM’s is 75% research & 25% teaching at local community colleges). There are >20 institutions with an IRACDA program but UM is certainly a great place to be! Happy to answer any questions ☺️

Tenure-track teaching-focused jobs at large research universities are pretty rare in my experience! Take a look here for one at UCSD.

I had so much fun submitting my bracket for this! Plus it’s raising money for (your favorite) charity. Submissions only open for a few more hours - have at it!

🗣I don’t know who needs to hear this but we ✨don’t✨ get rid of outliers *because* they’re extreme... we get rid of them when their extreme-ness indicates they’re not a part of the data generating process we want to study (like a typo that says your newborn is 1000 lbs)

Want to register your opinion in the #wonderbracket? We’re voting on the “best” one-hit wonders. And “Baby Got Back” is *the best* one-hit wonder, wouldn’t you agree? Help us out here & vote! (We also donated to charity when we submitted our brackets, so it’s for a good cause 😁)

Reading Oliver Sacks was a big inspiration for me studying neuroscience, plus now I study how exercise affects the brain so this is very cool to learn 😎

Sure, short-term improvements come from translational research. But so many of the things that really change our world come from people asking "something interesting might be going on here, I'm going to explore it," we cannot sacrifice curiosity-driven research for applied

Our paper on the evolution of brain processing capacity is now out. Endotherms converged on similar scaling of neurons with brain mass, leaving reptiles far behind. Find out just how dramatic this increase is and which two groups stand out #evolution pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
