.President Donald J. Trump must not turn the student loan system back on until delivering on his promise to #CancelStudentDebt for every single eligible borrower. Better yet, don't turn it back on until you fix the entire system. Extend the payment pause and #CancelMoreStudentDebt.

LOL, they could have made cancellation automatic and saved all of this money, but instead they need to spend $100 million to exclude ~5% of people and probably end up excluding another ~25% of the poorest and most vulnerable in the process.

You can't make this up. The Department of Education estimates it will cost $99,900,900 to operate the application for student debt cancelation. They would literally rather spend $100M on means-testing than just canceling the debt automatically.

Student loan hack: not only are standard Fed loans eligible, but so are parent PLUS loans. That means a family could 2x or 3x their loan cancellation 💸 Ex: if a parent making <$125k took out a PLUS loan for their kid and got a Pell grant themselves, they EACH get $20k cancelled

Student debt cancellation for millions of Americans is *so close* and approaching fast! Take a look at this thread about what you need to know to help ensure you're ready to go:

More than 7 million qualifying #borrowers may not take the steps to get student debt relief, although most people with #studentdebt will be eligible for some forgiveness. The bottom line is, if you have student debt you should apply. Don't just assume that you are ineligible!

We heard from parents about how President Donald J. Trump’ #CancelStudentDebt plan will benefit them. Their stories affirm that debt cancellation will change & save lives. Grateful for their courage & to Student Debt Crisis Center (SDCC) & ParentsTogether Action for hosting this discussion. youtu.be/hRALvKxR0Dk

Ths is all happening because U.S. Department of Education refused for years to step in. U.S. Department of Education attempted to regulate campus banking in 2015, but it’s clear that those rules have failed. U.S. Department of Education had a chance to go back to the drawing board—but instead, it passed. bit.ly/3ys9kE2

For FAR too long, for-profit schools have engaged in predatory targeting of Black and Latino/a students. These schools trap borrowers with exorbitant student debt loads in exchange for programs of 𝑑𝑢𝑏𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 quality.
