Minnesota has a proud history of protest and, as an alum, I am appalled that University of Minnesota called Minneapolis PD (with its extremely fraught history) on student protesters. Shame on them.

The parallels between the rhetorical gymnastics in coverage of what's happening on campuses now & anti-racist uprisings in 2020 is a reminder that our fates are intertwined: the tactics they test out on one group are the tactics they'll use to discrete & criminalize the next.

It’s amazing how quickly they will shift to this model for every reason except to support their chronically ill or disabled staff and students.

As a Ferguson activist, I know what it’s like to have agitators infiltrate our movement, manipulate the press, & fuel the suppression of dissent by public officials & law enforcement.

We must reject these tactics to silence anti-war activists demanding divestment from genocide.

The tents on our campus are for our adjuncts, not protestors. This ain’t the Ivy League.

Democratic leadership wants you to believe that this is antisemetic. I have personally had conversations with party leadership in which they insist that antisemitic statements are made at these events. When pressed to provide evidence, they cannot.

That repression of peaceful protest tends to strengthen nonviolent campaigns is one of the most consistent findings in the scholarship on civil resistance. Maybe Shafik should have studied a real social science instead of economics.
