For the next 2 weeks, at Faial,24 students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Portuguese universities will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and acquire expertise in marine robotics. Exciting times are ahead!

#marinerobotics #summerschool DAY 6:Sea time! Students embarked on a 1-day journey at sea to deploy the drifters they build & test other sensors. They will be following their drifters online and using models to predict drifters' locations. A special guest joined the activity🐬

#marinerobotics #summerschool DAY 7: After days of hard work it was time for a well-deserved social activity. The students had the opportunity to participate in a whale-watching experience!🐳

Next on DAY 8 #marinerobotics #summerschool John Leonard from MIT MechE, addressed the important topic of AUV navigation. Students worked in teams on a design challenge for a localization system to make important observations of ancient ruins in Azores, using a scuba diver& AUV.

#marinerobotics #summerschool DAY 9:Exploring unchartered “waters” & learning new skills🐟 Students went to visit some labs to learn about the experimental work in the aquaculture of limpets, and how to carry out biological sampling operations of species with commercial interest.

DAY 10: The final day of the #marinerobotics #summerschool (1/2) During the last 2 weeks, students played a SeaLab card game as teams of marine scientists and engineers exploring the depths of the ocean in order to present a solution to an oceanographic phenomenon.
