May is National #WaterSafetyMonth, and we're sharing tips on how to stay safe in and around the water. Teaching your children to be water smart is the first step in water safety; be sure they understand the importance of asking permission before going in or near the water.

Make sure children in the water are actively supervised at all times. Teach them to only swim where a lifeguard is on duty or where a responsible adult is watching without distractions. #WaterSafetyMonth

Whether it’s bath time, time for fun in the pool or a simple walk along the shore, make sure your swimmers-to-be are within arm’s reach at all times. #WaterSafetyMonth

Today's tip for staying safe in and around the water is simple: Wear a life jacket. Inexperienced and non-swimmers especially should always wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket. #WaterSafetyMonth

As National #WaterSafetyMonth comes to a close, we have one final tip to share. Even if you're a great swimmer, a panicked person can pull you underwater. Remember the “reach, throw, don’t go” concept of using a long object or rope to pull a swimmer in trouble to safety.
