The "who does more" for the family/relationship argument. ✨The "Why". If you're keeping what we call “ledgers” as a way to tally up who is doing more around the house or in your relationship, this might be an argument you are familiar with. (thread)

Co-regulation is most successful when each person has developed their individual emotional states. BOTH people must be healed enough. If one person is constantly triggered bcuz they haven’t healed from prior relationships, they will project onto partner. #WITSI #TillTraumaEnds

Psychotherapy cannot undo the past. If we've been abused, neglected or otherwise mistreated, that's part of our lived experience that cannot be un-lived However, psychotherapy can help us put the past in the past so we don't have to keep reliving it

Therapy is not where someone tells us how to put out the latest fire in our life. Therapy is where we find a person (the therapist) who works through the firehouse with us to ensure all the equipment works well so we can put out our own fires.

"The goals in therapy are a collaborative effort in which therapist & patient together identify what is distressing to the patient, what the patient would like to change, & what is realistically possible to change in the course of psychotherapy" —Glen Gabbard Sound familiar?👇

Friendly reminder: If you feel that the genocide & ethnic cleansing of Palestine/Palestinian people is complex or nuanced, it may be time to open up a book or two to resolve that tension. There is a fairly straightforward history & pattern that has led up to current events.

Not every therapy session ends with a solution. Sometimes it ends in reflection. Sometimes it ends with tears. Sometimes it ends the realization that more work has to be done.
