The YIMBY movement is taking center stage in national politics 🔥 We're seeing more wins across the US because of the hard work of our activists. But we're not done yet. We need all hands on deck if we are going to end the housing shortage. Join us: yimbyaction.org/join/

"Too often, explanations center around identifying a villain: Greedy developers, private equity companies, racist neighbors, gentrifiers, or corrupt politicians. These stories aren't always false, but they don’t speak to root causes." theatlantic.com/podcasts/archi…

Here in Maryland, we are subsidizing units at 100% AMI. That means if you make the median income, government resources or mandates are necessary for you to be able to buy or rent a home.

Property tax credits are bad and insulate the comfortably housed from the high costs of housing. They are also easily misapplied without intentional malfeasance.

Most YIMBY solutions don't cause anyone's property values to go down. They just allow smaller units on the same plot of land, hence lower per-unit housing prices. But if we could go back in time and de-commodify housing, that would be cool too.

I keep having this conversation where people PRESUME (because the narrative has been screamed at them) that no one wants more housing in their community. But the data is solid. Voters recognize the link between supply and affordability AND they want government leaders to fix it.

The APFO committee's first public hearing is soon -- a prime opportunity for housing advocates to make clear that we need APFO changes that support all of the housing development approved in HoCo by Design. Register for our free webinar 10/30 at 7p us02web.zoom.us/rest/webinar/r…

Join me at Department of Housing and Urban Development on Nov 20 (10-noon) for a panel on Transit-Oriented Development and Affordable Housing production. Yeah, I'm on the panel, but trust me there will be far more interesting people there :) If you can't be there in person, join virtually! planetizen.com/event/132282-o…

Governor Moore's Housing Development Act (formerly Housing for Jobs) is before the Senate EEE committee as HB503. Please ask the Senators on this committee to retain the vesting provision that allows housing projects to move forward with certainty! mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Com…

The Maryland Senate EEE committee has amended the Housing Development Act to remove the vesting provision. All that remains is housing targets and a task force. The bill will likely go back to the House to see if the body will concur with the Senate amendments. #MDHousing
