Established under the Tobacco Board Act, 1975, the Tobacco Board began on 1 Jan 1976 in Guntur. Today, it is a respected national institution serving farmers with transparency and justice. On Foundation Day, tribute was paid to Shri Kotha Raghuramaiah at the Central Office.

Celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Tobacco Board at Guntur 🎉 Honored best-performing farmers from Karnataka & Andhra Pradesh, in the presence of our ED Vishwashri,IAS, senior officials, industry dignitaries, former Chairmen & Board Members, along with managers and staff.

Virginia tobacco farmers from Andhra Pradesh raised concern over higher cigarette taxes, fearing reduced demand & rise of illegal smuggled cigarettes hurting livelihoods. I’ve informed them I will take up the issue with Hon. Commerce & Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal sir.

My take on the Times of India: Sharp hikes in excise duty and GST on unmanufactured tobacco and cigarettes could harm farmers, encourage illicit trade, and weaken national revenue.
