The unexpected finding was that under AFM tip enhancement and femtosecond IR pulse, there is evidence from photothermal measurement that strong multiphoton absorption processes exist at 10 nm and 200 fs scale. Something remains to be explored further.

We further improved the pulsed force Kelvin probe force microscopy with integration lock-in detection. It is simple to build and has 10 nm spatial resolution, and it is 4 times faster than current state-of-art under ambient conditions. Lehigh Research pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…
