Reminiscing on a fun few days taking part in Mike Kojo Gozo workshop ShopWorkShop, exploring the future of the high street with the our augmented nail salon

XA x XAMA: Augmented Nail Salon (6/6) The workshop drew on the historical idea of the ‘salon’ as a space for discussion hosted by women, reframing it as the augmented nail salon, an alternative community space in which digital tools add layers of information and spark discussion.

XA x XAMA: Augmented Nail Salon (5/6) The salon was augmented by using objects around the salon and special nail stickers to trigger augmented reality videos, exploring the salon in different contexts from local London high street to rural Brazil to the network of global retail.

XA x XAMA: Augmented Nail Salon (4/6) Hosting a live nail salon, XA invited members of the public to have their nails done while opening up discussions about the role of digital networks.

XA x XAMA: Augmented Nail Salon (3/6) The workshop took place in June 2019 as part of Michael Gozo’s ‘ShopWorkShop’, a Theatrum Mundi research project exploring the shop as a space of economic and artistic experimentation.

XA x XAMA: Augmented Nail Salon (2/6) XAMA explores Brazilian beauty salons, a traditional hub of social interaction and information dissemination, as a parallel and autonomous alternative to the hegemony of existing social media platforms.
