CORDIO East Africa and WWF Madagascar were pleased to host a workshop focused on establishing a community-based natural resource management (CBRNM) learning network in the WIO. 🌊🌊🌊 The workshop was a success, delivering a roadmap for the development and implementation of the initiative!

For #mangrovesday, a training session is hold to give communities who manage mangroves the capacity and skills they need to achieve sustainable management of this ecosystem. Specifically, the aim is to train local communities about the management transfer process and issues.

1/3 Reforestation of mangroves on #mangrovesday. Local communities, ministries, conservation NGOs and youth planted some 20,000 mangrove seedlings on the Kimony site, where the mangroves had stopped growing. Thanks to 2 new techniques, mangroves can now grow.

Happy #mangrovesday! Morondava is celebrating the mangroves. Around 500 people got together for a big carnival in the Menabe region. Awareness-raising, dancing and entertainment around the theme of mangroves and climate change throughout the town. Pictures of the event.

WWF Madagascar's stand showcased innovative technologies for monitoring & controlling mangrove restoration sites. 3 drones of different sizes were presented. This will enable mangroves to be mapped, pressures to be monitored and restoration success rates to be measured.

WWF presented the “Differential Global Positioning System”, a tool to obtain accurate database in order to create a hydrological & topographical profile of restoration sites. This will also serve to give instructions on the actions to be taken for hydrological and restoration.
