cont’d from last… The area was Golgotha - a forsaken hill where Jesus’ cross was. Legend says, God ran out of paint when handing out colours and the robin, ashamed of being colourless, built his nest in hiding. He flew past Jesus whilst looking for twigs & took pity on him.

In Wales, the robin is known as 'brou-rhuddyn' or 'scorched breast’. The name derived from the robin being scorched in purgatory whilst delivering water to tormented souls. Another story is it was scorched fanning the flames of a dying fire that was keeping the baby Jesus warm.
