Looking up wurflenii on Google Scholar, as one does, I stumbled across a conference paper about research being shared on Twitter, mentioning this account. First and last time that's going to happen. Those were the days. dapp.orvium.io/deposits/6442b…

By collaborating with the Hines Lab and Paul Williams, we deciphered the evolutionary history of the most colorful bumblebee mimicry complex in southeast Asia. Our study is just published on Science Advances, and more excitingly, our bee is on the COVER! Science Advances

Seems like "I've never seen so few bumblebees" is something I'll be saying a lot, for the rest of my bumblebee watching days. And it's always going to be true, I'm afraid. It's always going to be true.

Early morning on a cold mountainside in Montana meant a pile of sleepy bumblebees trying to perk up before heading to work. I love all the orange on these Western species 🍊😍

Bombus yezoensis

Bumblebees etc. 📸 Uwe Mosthaf
