Family doctors could handle nearly 15% of emergency room visits in Canada, report finds by Kelly Grant for The Globe and Mail who spoke to Dr. Catherine Varner, emergency physician and CMAJ Deputy Editor about this CIHI_ICIS report. theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

Shelley Petit did just about everything to avoid going to the ER, when her family doctor was off. But she ended in a crowded Emergency because there was nowhere else for her to go. New data shows 1 in 7 ER visits in Canada are for conditions that potentially could have been

Right. Don't blame the patients AND also don't get the idea that this is the cause of emergency department overcrowding. Crowding is because the beds are occupied by admitted patients with no bed to go to upstairs. We can handle 'busy' — it's the crowding that harms people.

Unlike Ontario's Premier, I don't blame patients for coming to ER. The problem is profiteers are salivating to capture the need for urgent care. The fundamental problem of ERs is not kids with fevers, it's the admitted with no hospital beds. cbc.ca/news/health/ci…

ERs hold family medicine in the highest regard. We are close cousins. The many children we see with fever is not the problem. It's the many admitted to hospital with no bed. CIHI should not perpetuate the myth that primary care is causing ER's problems. CIHI_ICIS

Hey chris keefer what do you think of this? I'm sure you would find much with which you disagree, but the fundamental argument that nuclear cannot be built at the speed and scale to need our decarbonization goals is pretty strong. energytransitionshow.com/episode-237-wh…

High grocery prices were a major reason for Trump's win, as they are for PP's high poll numbers. Now, Trump admits that he cannot fulfill his promise to lower them. Hopefully, Canadians will recognize before its too late that PP can't, and won't, either.

Most Canadian ER docs like me have seen patients in the last one week waiting 6+ hours to see them. This is not a political issue. This is a national issue. And it's not new. Across this great nation we must to fix this bruised but not broken publicly funded system. CAEP

Some things worth remembering: 1. Vaccines work. Without them around the world, more people will suffer, get sick, and die unnecessarily. 2. Global issues, like climate change, require global solutions. There are no safe smoking sections in restaurants or airplanes, or

glad to write an article for the The Globe and Mail about hospital crowding/wait times and how the public can show up for ERs instead of in them. one day, we won't need the rooms, and the medicine will come to us. until then, here are some things you can do: theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

Los Angeles is facing devastating wildfires (in January). Hopefully there will be no loss of life--there will certainly be billions in property damage. Yes folks, it's Climate Change once again. We will see what Donald J. Trump has to say this time 🙄
