The Riserva is 86'd but the 95pt Cappanino still remains. It is a Gran Selezione, a category a step above Riserva just recently approved (2014). To qualify a wine must be 90% Sangiovese, age for 30 months min & grapes must be grown by the winery itself. conta.cc/3ubHBmq

The Commanderie de Peyrassol?s vineyards are in the foothills of the mountains (330m). The terraced vineyards consist of soils of rocky clay (good for water retention in this dry climate) and limestone soils. Learn more here. conta.cc/3d2LZOR

Bibbiano's 25ha of vineyards lay between 270-310m in elevation in Chianti. The winery's philosophy has been a commitment to indigenous Tuscan varieties focusing on Sangiovese. 250 cases of the 95pt Capannino, a Gran Selezione, were imported to the U.S. conta.cc/3d2LZOR

The Pago del Cielo is planted approx 3k ft. Elevation spares vines, some up to 80 years old, from brutal daytime heat. Temperature can differ by 40f every day. The cool gives vines a respite while also fostering a powerful, balanced wine. conta.cc/3d2LZOR

Farming the slopes where flint meets clay and the famous Kimmeridgian limestone. Harvest here is later than typical, resulting in less of the acidity that is so typical of Sancerre. These wines are complex with deep notes and long, satisfying finales. conta.cc/3geXODA

Jasper Morris quotes Volnay locals in his fabulous book Inside Burgundy, and the English translation goes something like this: "If you don't have vines in Cailleret then you don't know what Volnay is." conta.cc/3oioO7f

Domaine Faury's parcels of vines in Saint Joseph, opposite the hill of Hermitage, are some of the most lauded of the area. Lionel, farms sustainably & meticulously in order to wield a gentle hand in the cellar. Expect textbook Syrah aromatics and flavors. conta.cc/3wa7TGA

One of the most beautiful & ageworthy wines in the world, Chave's Hermitage Blanc. Rich, full-bodied, & powerful, mesmerizingly balanced w/notes of buttered citrus, almond, honeysuckle & marmalade. Rocking in its youth, it soars years into its life. conta.cc/3oCkDDb

An exclusive look at tonight's featured wine. Joseophshfer, a 3.8 hectare monopole vineyard is between famed Sonnenuhr & Domprobst vineyards. The vines are on wildly steep (60-70 degrees) stony Devonian slate perfect for capturing & retaining sunlight conta.cc/3idC4cr

Cain Cuve is always a blending of two vintages from multiple vineyards to create a balanced, softer wine with complexity and lift. There may be no better value in Napa Valley when it comes to food-friendliness and weightless, mouth-filling depth. conta.cc/2QVpRhb

Kaleidoscopic Minerality The fruit for the "RR" comes from the Kirchspiel vineyard, & the resulting wine is deep & racy with damn near kaleidoscopic minerality. This is a wine that obliterates the Rheinhessen's generally ho-hum reputation. conta.cc/3vjhTwu

That Boutique-y Whisky Company, cheeky labels & name, highlight the company?s ethos: they don?t take themselves too seriously, but they take the whisky itself quite seriously. They focus on whisky for connoisseurs; via rare drams & extremely old whiskies. conta.cc/35ovsjH

Bourgognes, I like to keep a handful of these "Entry" Pinot Noirs & Chardonnays around at all times. Their versatility makes food pairing so easy. Plus they're so delicious. #VinsBourgogne 🍷 conta.cc/35hatCl

Just a periodic reminder that if any wine company claims to 'cut out the middlemen' you should generally steer well clear!
