Is this happening to anyone else? Got home to upload a CHI paper and PCS keeps saying it can't allocate an ID when I try to make a new submission. Isn't the deadline Sept 5 AoE? #CHI2025 ACM CHI Conference

Ian Arawjo (@[email protected]) Yeah, they’ve been posting updates to CHI Meta on FB. Essentially they ran out of 4 digit IDs. PCS fix has been pushed but hasn’t seemed to resolve issues yet? Also apparently they will not be extending the deadline due to cascading issues.

🌲I wanted to “take a step back” to get an overall view of the main components in AI’s environmental impact, short & sweet. And Sasha Luccioni, PhD 🦋🌎✨🤗 & Bruna Trevelin wanted similar, with relevance to current policy discussions. We merged our thinking: check it out! huggingface.co/blog/sasha/ai-…

🚨 Are we evaluating qualitative studies correctly in HCI? This paper "H is for Human and How (Not) To Evaluate Qualitative Research in HCI" argues we're using the wrong lens, potentially stifling valuable insights. Let's unpack why and how to fix it. 🧵[1/7]

Update! Desk rejection has been reverted! Our submission is reinstated. Thanks for all your support and for the chairs considering our request. Hope all similar submissions will be reinstated. Heads down again to make sure you see this paper at CHI25. It's an exciting one!

AI/HCI/CS/STS friends: what are good papers that problematize the notion of a "ground truth" in AI? Self-plugs are always welcomed! Pls repost to break the filter bubble and get more POVs.

Saw this new article Upol Ehsan shared and wanted to reshare a GoogleDoc I started last year on responding to common qualitative research critiques. You are welcome to contribute! Most people who have added examples so far have been HCI folks. docs.google.com/document/d/1jH…

Our agenda paper on alignment and safety of LLMs just got published at TMLR: openreview.net/forum?id=oVTkO… 🥳 The revised version is also now on arxiv arxiv.org/abs/2404.09932.

Automating AI research is exciting! But can LLMs actually produce novel, expert-level research ideas? After a year-long study, we obtained the first statistically significant conclusion: LLM-generated ideas are more novel than ideas written by expert human researchers.

When do implicit conceptions of scientific objectivity stand to undermine the legitimacy of scientific research? How does this play out in the context of modern scientific machine learning? I explore these questions in the linked manuscript.

HCI systems papers need to tell visual stories. As we near the CHI deadline, here's a set of exemplary figures curated by my lab. Hope it helps inspire! Feel free to contribute some examples. docs.google.com/presentation/d…
