It's so mild today this optimistic peacock butterfly has come out of hibernation and thinks it's spring. A beautiful splash of colour on an otherwise drab and dreary January day.

Game of hide and seek? Not quite - this female oil beetle, spotted at Pepperbox Hill, is digging a burrow to lay her eggs into. Once they hatch, the larvae catch a ride on solitary bees back to their nests where they eat the food meant for the bees' young!
