Consistent with its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognize the State of Palestine. I will make this solemn announcement before the United Nations General Assembly this coming September.

Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. It sounds inconceivable. But it’s the truth. Israel is taking deliberate, coordinated action to destroy the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Explicit statements by Israeli officials, combined with a consistent policy of destructive attacks

Let’s be clear: Statehood for the Palestinians is a right, not a reward. The only realistic, just, and sustainable solution is two States – Israel & Palestine – living side-by-side in peace. I urge the international community to take urgent & concrete steps to make it real.

Two leading human rights organisations based in Israel, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights, say Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The two groups said Israel had targeted civilians in Gaza only because of their identity as Palestinians.

I understand concerns about recognizing Palestinian statehood, but with reports of Israeli plans to annex northern Gaza & rising settler violence in the West Bank, it’s clear that international recognition is now essential to keep the two-state solution alive. #Palestine #Israel

There are sovereign states we recognize despite rejecting their governments. To claim we cannot recognize a Palestinian state because of those currently in power in Gaza, especially when Hamas now holds minimal control, is a flawed argument and is a distraction to achieving peace

🚨NEW: As a result of our attendance push, children were in school for 5 million more days last year – the biggest improvement in a decade. Under the Tories, a generation went missing from England’s schools. Labour’s Plan for Change is bringing them back to the classroom.

You might argue that, after suffering the worst attack in its history, Israel will have no desire to prosecute its own leaders when the war ends. Yet the country has an existential interest in seeing justice done economist.com/leaders/2025/0…
