Introductory piece on the civic apiary in the #louth Leader today. Thanks @LouthLJames for shining a light on what we're doing. Here's hoping I can invite people to the opening next spring.....and that it stops 🌧️ so I can get in the field. #beekeeping louthleader.co.uk/business/regio…

How many of these winter-flowering plants do you have? They can be vital nectar-pitstops for winter-active bumblebees who need lots of energy while they are not in hibernation. Some bumblebees may have been disturbed from hibernation or may even be setting up a winter nest!🌼🐝

Why do we sow yellow rattle before creating a wildflower meadow? Find out with our Short-haired bumblebee reintroduction project manager, BuzzingSouthEast. 97% of our flower-rich meadows have been lost since WW2 - sowing wildflowers is one of the best ways to help bumblebees thrive!

The UK has eradicated many of its orchards and now imports 70% of its apples - often from across the world. Have you got space in your garden or community to plant an apple tree or two? Each new tree could help cut food miles, soak up CO2 and benefit all sorts of wildlife 🍎

Honey bees are the best pollinators because: They are available in large numbers (40-60,000 in a hive in summer) They show "flowerconstancy"(they stick with one sort of flower until it's finished) They are available early and late in the year Beekeepers will move them to crops

Self explanatory really, but this mirrors my experience with #bees. The importance of brambles is interesting too, still white (and red) clover in Lincolnshire. botanicgarden.wales/press/honeybee…

Fingers crossed for this. I attended a couple of years ago, it was brilliant. Visiting #stamford is always a bonus too...🤞

One of the scariest things about our times is how easy it is to scare people and start a political stampede. There are people who could be upset if they were told that half of all Americans earn less than the median income—though of course that is the way median income is defined

4 years today I started on a project to bring farmers together from across the U.K. To have a farmer lead voice across 🇬🇧promoting farmers delivering wildlife improvements and we needed future farming policy to support what can be done. What a journey it has been so far.

Dear councils, please create more allotments! 90,000 people are on UK waiting lists - some likely to wait 40 years. That's huge potential benefits for health, wellbeing, communities, wildlife, biodiversity, and for producing healthy fresh food without packaging or food miles! 🐝
