After returning from northern France, the lack of biodiversity/insect life in the UK is shocking. I can’t possibly convey the difference in one tweet so here’s a 🧵of just how nature depleted we are, even though the landscape, climate & species (historically) are almost identical

The hedge on the left is managed every year. The one on the right has been left for several years. The same species, a hugely different outcome for local habitat diversity & richness because of the cover, nectar & berries. It doesn't always have to be the way it was in the past.

Probably lauded as the greatest autumn for twitching rare birds I wonder just how many people look and realise just how devoid of birds most British habitats are now

Wolf conference gathering steam. Speakers getting ready to fly in to advise on life in wolf land. Calls will be played from the ridge where the flint knappers listened to their sonatas by moonlight. Poems will be read in the dark.
