Congratulations Mary Creagh CBE MP on your appointment to Defra UK. We look forward to working with you to protect and restore the uplands, including by reviving peatlands, accelerating tree planting and tackling illegal bird of prey persecution.

From rewetting peat bogs to reviving clough woodlands, regenerating ancient grasslands and heathlands, Peak District NT is leading the way in upland restoration. Thrilled to see Natural England and Tony Juniper recognise this model for uplands across the UK!

The peatlands are the UK’s Amazon rainforest- unique, spectacular & globally important. It is vital we protect and restore them. Bog ugly, but totally magnificent: peatlands are finally getting the respect they deserve | Sophie Yeo | The Guardian theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

The inglorious 12th tomorrow. Left is a driven grouse moor. A completely devastated landscape. On the right an alternative vision. 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🌳

The so-called 'Glorious Twelfth' is anything but glorious. Carbon-rich peatlands are burnt and countless wild animals are trapped and snaredβ€”all so that grouse can be shot for 'sport'. It's time for change!

Attention, Steve Reed MP! Peat moorlands have been burned and hundreds of thousands of wild animals have been killed to prepare for the grouse shooting season. It’s time to step in to protect wildlife and the environment. wildmoors.org.uk/conservationis…

It's fantastic to see the shallow pools of water, created by #peatlandrestoration works on Exmoor, filling up with incredible peat-forming sphagnum mosses only 6 months on from when they were created.

Scotland has licensed grouse moors, enhancing powers to combat wildlife crime and environmental harm. Grouse moors associated with wildlife crime or environmental harm risk suspension of their license, leading to closure. England must do the same. ft.com/content/88f3ea…
