Senator Jagler is right, and we communicated that directly to MPS in a meeting this morning. We made it clear we need a real plan, we are committed to help them get there, and we believe they understand what we need to be able to move forward. - Tom McCarthy, DPI

Wait. When WILL and I were saying MPS desperately needs improvement for YEARS, we were told that we were not supporting public schools. But now that Governor Tony Evers is calling for changes and review, it’s only partisan when others call out the issues?

This is a profoundly important and enlightening book. I’m reading it now for the third time. Is it worth your time? Unequivocally, yes.

4) big question for Wisconsin DPI: how do you release $100M+ in funding to a district where the top 4 Finance positions are vacant or "likely to be replaced", and that in a best case scenario is going to be a year-plus late on required financial submissions?!

This raises more questions than answers: why would Dr. Jill Underly, WI State Superintendent, the elected leader of Wisconsin DPI, not be told that the state’s largest district was late with audits & req’d reports for 9+ months? Who on her team withheld this info from her when she endorsed the referendum?

Satisfaction with schools fell in all parts of the state but especially so in Milwaukee. In June in Milwaukee 2% very satisfied, 20% satisfied, 41% dissatisfied, 37% very dissatisfied. In Nov 2023 was 3%-44%-36%-17%

The Wauwatosa School Board is discussing how to close a gap caused by a $4 million accounting error. But things got spicy before we even got to that item. One board member revealed other members quietly got a legal opinion about a partial merger with MPS. Loud voices then recess

What an embarrassment for the SAT to radically reduce passage length. The ability to sustain focus on & make meaning from longer text is an indicator of achievement & likely college success. Simplistic text erodes any differentiating factor for those kids who actually do take the
