I’ve reviewed the literature on believer vs nonbeliever ethics. The studies show no such thing. This is a fine example, though, of how believers are more likely to distort facts to promote an us vs. them narrative. You can leave the church but the church won’t leave you alone.

Personally I find myself so far removed from Joseph Smith’s time and culture it’s hard for me to gauge if the BoM is badly written or just old timey. Contemporaries Mark Twain, who knew a bit about writing, and Alexander Campbell, who knew a bit about theology, were unimpressed.

I used to think all my religious ideas were true and everyone else was either wrong or just didn’t have “all the truth.” I was special. I didn’t see those thoughts as vanity. I didn’t see the ego. I didn’t see the narcissistic faith. I was once blind but now I see.

The “world” is a devilish, corrupt place that tramples God’s unchanging moral standards under its feet. Also, the world’s evolving morality is belatedly adopted by the church every generation. What would it be like to have leaders who lead, rather than retrench?

Humans all create god in their own image. What your god does, and who they hate, says more about you than it does about god.

What if Biden had a quorum, or say, a “cabinet”of 12 (or more) advisers and a second in line in case his health or mental acuity deteriorated? Would he still be too old to lead in that completely hypothetical scenario of someone having planned for worst case scenarios?

Which is why for many, the SEC letter matters more than the CES letter.
