The Welwyn Garden City Society is in the process of putting together an exciting programme for the coming year. This will include Zoom presentations and refurbishment of the town's poster booths. Check the website for more details.

Members have expressed concerns over the proposed development by Metropolitan Thames Valley Homes on the former Shredded Wheat site. One member described it as "Welwyn Concrete City". Your committee is looking closely at proposals, and will react accordingly on your behalf.

We have become increasingly concerned about the lack of care our town's trees are given. Uncontrolled growth and neglect has led to problems such as substance abuse within an overgrown canopy. We are on the case!

The cycle lanes on Bridge Road have become a talking point within the Society's Committee. Would Ebenezer Howard and the city fathers have approved, or are they just another contemporary blight on our townscape?

We are concerned about plans to convert the Campus West car park into a three storey building. We think that this will create visual pollution in the north of the town centre, and be visually intrusive for nearby residents.

Proposals for development along Broadwater Road are changing alarmingly. We need to be aware that 11 storey blocks are now proposed with a higher density of population than this town is accustomed to. If we ignore this Garden City principles disappear.........

Welwyn Concrete City is on its way. Eleven storey blocks proposed in a new development around the Shredded Wheat buildings.

Another high rise development is proposed along Broadwater Road, on the BioPark site. If you value Garden City principles please object on the WHBC planning site.
