This Muscogee bandolier bag dating from the mid-twentieth century stands in contrast to its more contemporary brethren. The artifact, on loan from The Museum of the Red River, showcases how classical motifs are continuing to be expressed in modern-day Native craftwork.

In celebration of #WomensHistoryMonth, our March lobby exhibit features Native American women artists from the Five Tribes and beyond. This month we will be focusing on their stories, the topics they explore in their work, and the impact they continue to make in our society.

Gray Fingerwoven Muscogee Diamond Bag by weaver Sandy Fife Wilson. Wilson has tasked herself with reviving the art of finger-woven bandoliers, of which very few exist in museum collections to date. The arrow pattern is a classic bandolier design from the era of finger-woven bags.

Thanking the lovely ladies of the Daisy Garden Club for hosting our Annual April Shower Fundraiser! We had a wonderful time drinking punch, eating cookies, and meeting all the lovely people who brought us donations. We are so grateful to everyone who made this year a success.

So grateful to those Tigers who joined our WHS Alumni Art Show Reception yesterday! We look forward to seeing them each year for the this special show that celebrates the talent Wewoka has produced throughout the years.

"Form and Function" features Native art and artifacts that serves a functional purpose in everyday life. It discusses how these items were used, the purpose of their ornamentation and the significance of the stories they tell within their culture. This show is open thru Aug 31st.

We have been having a blast for our Mvskoke Summer STEAM Learning Days, and so have the kids! This is an learning based program the museum holds every Wednesday in July to promote cultural learning in rural areas.

Tomorrow's STEAM Learning class will cover life in the Everglades. It will start at 10:30 and end at 12:30. The kids will help customize their own chickee and peg doll, place themselves in the everglades and pick a role to play in that community.

The museum’s annual Holiday Bazaar, to be held Friday, November 18 at the museum, 524 S. Wewoka Ave. The annual Bazaar fundraiser kicks off the holiday season in Wewoka with delicious baked goods, as well as grab bags, a White Elephant Sale, a silent auction, and Cheese Apples!
