In partnership with Olds College of Agriculture & Technology, the @NHP_Field team has installed a hailpad at the Weather Station Array and field 18 at Olds College. These hailpads will passively record #hail impacts and will allow us to conduct post-event analysis of the hail sizes and intensity.
The NHP Field Project π¨π¦ team captured a vast amount of data today from a supercell that travelled through eastern Alberta. The team tracked the storm for ~4 hours and documented the hailswath dimensions, conducted UAV flights of hail and damage, and collected hail up to 48 mm. #abstorm

The Northern Hail Project π¨π¦ field team just collected some interesting looking #hail east of Lacombe, AB. This hailstone, for example, measures 58 mm across the nodes and was likely caused by an abundance of supercooled water within the storm. #abstorm #hailresearch

Itβs the last day of our 2024 summer internships for Northern Tornadoes Project π¨π¦ and Northern Hail Project π¨π¦! A bittersweet moment as this was definitely our best group yet, and they accomplished a lot of excellent research. Good luck to our 21 interns as they start their next school year!
