"One of the primary function of local government is to tailor these rules to what best fits our community, and you're taking that out of our hands at this point," Jackson County Commissioner Coby Corkle. Where is the co-equal ruling authority, @ColoradoOGCC? #CoLeg

"Policymakers assume that horizontal drilling that could reach out for several miles is a solution (to the proposed 2,000-foot setback). That's not correct. In the Piceance Basin horizontal drilling is simply not feasible." One size does not fit all, @ColoradoOGCC. #COLeg

Mesa County's Rose Pugliese, "We're in the best position as a local government authorities to understand the impacts of these decisions & the topography of the areas which we serve." Will the @ColoradoOGCC move forward without recognizing local gov'ts co-equal authority? #CoLeg

Direct quote from today's The Denver Post: "The law gives local governments more authority to regulate oil and gas when it comes to what happens on the surface" Yet @ColoradoOGCC is actively working to take co-equal authority away from local govt's #COLeg denverpost.com/2020/09/28/col…

While the @ColoradoOGCC considers an arbitrary setback number that is FOUR TIMES what its staff recommended our local governments are trying to figure out how to make ends meet. Why the economically-prohibitive regulation without any increased health & safety benefit? #CoPolitics

In case you missed it, 2 weeks ago representatives from numerous local Colorado governments discussed the various ways a 2,000-foot setback is not only arbitrary, but doesn't provide co-equal regulatory authority, as is written in SB-181 #CoLeg facebook.com/WesternRuralCO…

An arbitrary 2,000ft setback not only defies science, data and the will of Colorado voters, but it will halt the very innovation and technological progress that COGCC regulations would seemingly hope to achieve. #colorado #coleg #copolitics coloradopolitics.com/opinion/the-po… Colorado Politics

In 2020, WRLG participated as a party in the @ColoradoOGCC & CDPHE Air Pollution SB-181 Mission Change rulemaking processes. We collaborated w/stakeholders, filed written materials including written testimony & proposed rule language, and testified at each of the rulemaking hearings. 1/5

Our coalition worked to bring attention to areas where urban vs. rural or DJ Basin vs. Piceance specific rule provisions are needed to account for the very different geology, technology, topography and operational practices in Western Colorado natural gas basins. 2/5

Through WRLG’s efforts, our 23 counties and municipalities had a strong, unified voice for our western and rural Colorado communities. 97 named parties participated in the Mission Change rulemaking process, and WRLG was a formidable voice in the crowded field. 3/5

Specific outcomes from our efforts are listed on our website and moving forward our members plan to continue communicating about, and collaborating on issues that have an impact on less populated western and rural areas of Colorado. westernruralcoalition.com 4/5

We are proud to have generated tangible and positive changes to the Mission Change rules and will continue to be a unified voice for Colorado’s western and rural communities. 5/5

Beginning on January 15, the COGCC’s professional Commission will assume responsibility for reviewing and deciding oil and gas permitting under the new rules and the COGCC Director’s objective criteria based permitting will cease. 1/ #COLeg

Our WRLG coalition of local governments looks forward to continuing to work with the Commission on permitting decisions based on how the Mission Change rules are written. 2/

Our coalition spent much time over the past year participating in the Mission Change rulemaking process, collaborating with stakeholders, providing written and virtual testimony and proposed rule language. 3/

As most Coloradans know, our state contains extremely diverse geology & topography ranging from the Eastern Plains through the Rocky Mountains on to the Western Slope – from urban vs. rural community differences to the subterrane differences of the DJ Basin & Piceance Basin. 4/

WRLG efforts resulted in modifications to the final Mission Change rules language that will better serve the entire state of Colorado – and in several cases, will give our local governments a more active role in the permitting process as they take effect on Jan. 15. 5/
