The 17th is a masterclass in deception. Its front bunkers look side by side and tight to the green, but the left one is actually 15 yards short, a clever trick that makes clubbing up far harder than it should be.

Success on the 15th comes down to where you leave your approach shot on the undulating green. Steer clear of the left bunker and leave yourself an uphill putt – anything above the hole makes things tricky.

Everyone at WBGC wishes Dame Laura Davies DBE a very happy birthday. ‘Damo’ joined our active women’s section as a teenager. We’re lucky to still welcome her back regularly – now as an Honorary Member.

Abercromby’s brilliant 7th. This par 5 forces players to navigate bunkers and a large hollow short of the green, creating plenty of different ways to play the hole.

The back nine doesn’t ease you in. Even a great tee shot on the 10th still leaves a demanding uphill approach to a green protected on all sides.

A huge thanks to everyone who booked online to play our course in summer. With daylight hours now shorter, the course is back in the hands of members, their guests, and a few societies. Visitors are still welcome to book tee times through the pro shop, subject to availability.

Tucked behind the 7th green, our halfway hut is a brilliant pit stop, and an essential part of every round. We may be biased, but it's one of the best halfway huts around. Small, yet perfectly formed, and ran with a smile by our brilliant Heidi.

How do you tackle the short 8th? Abercromby designed two options: lay up short of the fairway bunkers or drive past them. Thanks to modern equipment, a third option – going for the green – is now on the table too.

The terrace may fall quiet over winter, but in summer it’s the ideal place to end a round – a spot for members and societies to relax, share stories, and enjoy views over the putting greens and course before heading home.

Prior to Abercromby's 1922 course, the members played over Cuthbert Butchart's Bleakdown course. The clubhouse hasn't changed a great deal since then, but judging by the slump of this gentleman beside a Butchart bunker, "Breakdown" might have been a better name for the club!

A quick look back at Pros Day in September – always a highlight of the calendar. Big thanks to Jonathan and his team for another brilliant day both on and off the course.

After a dry spring and summer, the course is still in outstanding shape thanks to Jon and his team. Maintaining that standard through such a tough year is no easy task - but they’ve pulled it off brilliantly.

A bird’s-eye view of our first and last holes shows not only the narrow site Abercromby designed our course on, but also the stunning surroundings we’re lucky to call home.

Dew on the greens, a chill in the air, and putts still running true - winter mornings made possible by the efforts of our greenkeeping team.

You have to wonder if Abercromby realised, when shaping the 8th, that he was crafting one of the best straight, flat parkland holes you could hope to find.

A striking before-and-after look at our 11th hole – from 15 years ago to today – showing Mackenzie & Ebert' superb work reshaping the greenside bunkers and extending the green surface.

This autumn drone shot shows just how narrow the land Abercromby had to work with really is. Yet through clever routing and subtle changes in direction, he made sure the course never feels cramped, nor repetitive – a masterclass in design on tight ground.
