This disability essay by Alice Wong 王美華 resonates deeply with me. My family was told that I wouldn't live beyond age 3. All my life, I've had a complicated relationship with mortality—it's often felt both near & far. I try to never take anything for granted. bit.ly/3vlxnWZ

Does anyone else have socially awkward days? If you’re my co-worker and we’ve interacted today, I am so sorry

Disabled people of ALL kinds belong in ALL genres of fiction. Because disabled people exist in the world. This is not a hot take and it’s not up for debate, it’s simply a fact.

My nephew is finally asleep, so I’m going to turn in for the night. I will continue to catch up with other comments and responses. Thank you E Train Talks Podcast 📚 for hosting ! It’s always a pleasure to be part of these convos and meet other MG authors, educators & readers ❤️

A4: I think contemporary dialogue and light profanity in realistic fiction can enhance the readers’ experience and help them feel closer to characters, but I don’t think it’s necessary.

A3: I think there’s a difference in language between MG and YA books, but it’s not so much the vocabulary as it is about voice, character thoughts & approach to complex topics. MG can absolutely tackle difficult subjects, but in a way that’s accessible for MG readers.

Thrilled to announce that come June I’ll be joining the The New York Times as the ‘24-25 disability reporting fellow and a member of the National desk! Feeling beyond grateful for this opportunity:

Proud to stand with my NYTimesGuild colleagues today in reminding New York Times executives that we haven't forgotten their disappointing decision to gut the paper's influential and historic sports desk.

It's been two years, and New York Times Tech Guild still doesn't have a contract. Simply put, there would be no Wordle, no The New York Times podcasts or app, no nytimes.com without our tech workers. It's time for @NYTimes management to bargain in good faith NOW. In solidarity ✊🏼

NYT Guild members stick together! My colleagues plan to do everything we can to support New York Times Tech Guild’s contract fight. Tech workers make everything we do possible and deserve a fair contract now!
