Great turn out at our Autumn meeting in Machynlleth! Dr David Gwyn provided a fascinating talk on how water powered the slate industry, and Glyn Roberts gave us an uplifting update on the restoration of Melin Daron. And we visited three traditional mills in the afternoon.

Here is Felin Crewi, Penegoes, near Machynlleth. A mill has stood here since the 16th century. Corn milling ceased in 1940, but began again after restoration in 1985. Now convered to holidat lets.

Here is the second mill from our recent trip to Machynlleth. Ffatri Isaf, Abercegir. A fulling mill that closed in 1964. The large water powered wooden hammers beat cloth until the fibres knitted together. One of only two compete fulling mills left.
