What's changed for Leicester City? I've done a report on #LCFC's style following their first pre-season game with Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night. Referencing the similarities/differences to Maresca's style last season. Give it a read below! medium.com/@dominic.wells…

Cooper reiterates that Leicester City (#LCFC) is in the market for a creative midfielder, playing on the right. But, how do those being linked rank amongst themselves? Here are the 11 main targets, compared via a range of metrics. Szmodics (good value), Facundo (v. balanced).

Since making this, there’s been links to Zaha and Yacine Adli for #LCFC. If any moves progress, I will add them to this to show a comparison vs. the other targets…still, this visual provides good context + value for all those previously linked!

Preseason is over & it's not been a great one for #LCFC, so I've identified why. Here, I live-coded some attacking metrics (+ focused on the role of the #9), to see how this version of the team ranks against last season. A lot of improvements are needed! medium.com/@dominic.wells…

This took all week to produce, but it's a fun, data-driven assessment of the opening game for #LCFC vs. Spurs. All feedback on the article is really appreciated! medium.com/@dominic.wells…

I will re-upload this after each GW, but here's a baseline predictor (34pts), vs. an optimistic view (50pts), vs. the reality. GW1: Baseline prediction loss, with an optimistic draw. GW2: Baseline prediction/optimistic view was a draw. So, we're par for baseline, just inverted.

This profile piece is over two years old. Still, when I was asked to scout 4 potential "Vardy replacements", I earmarked Patson Daka (ahead of his Leicester move) & Odsonne Édouard as interesting profiles to monitor. Now in 2024...Vardy plays with both! topbinstalk.com/2021/06/09/lei…

Southampton 2-3 Leicester City -Archer (8’) -Aribo (28’) -Buonanotte (64’) -Vardy (PEN: 74') -Ayew (90+8') Full-time thoughts (a thread) #SouLei

Some #IPSLEI thoughts that I wanted to speak on... I'm going to do a thread, but I might (if the issues aren't resolved over the next few GWs) look into writing an article in detail on these areas, at some point or maybe do a segment on a podcast talking through it.

A subtle tweak in the 4-4-2 (OOP) has been split roles of Bilal, Vardy & Buona. Primary role is to cover Kovačić (#6.) as recipient from CBs, but he’s dropping into awkward spaces for LEI to cover. If he comes close to CBs he’s Vardy’s marker, if he adjusts Buona has to track…

It's been a little while. On my return, I tried to diagnose some of Leicester City's issues this season—namely, a drop in the attacking metrics and a bespoke metric I've labelled "good-quality shots." Give this a read below, all feedback is appreciated! medium.com/@dominic.wells…

An update to #LCFC's accumulative points for 24/25 Premier League. The Base (34pts)/Optimistic (50pts) points tallies were selected *before* the season—currently -8 on the baseline, -2.84 on xPTS, & -11 on the optimistic. Trending towards an xPTS of ~27 for the campaign...

A brief, rant styled thread on the *obvious* issues from last night & previous games. Contextually, RvN had week(s) to fix this & showed zero solutions, just the same setup. Then doubled down post-match that the issue was conceding first…yet that’s happened in 25/30PL games!

Here's my latest piece, a semi-ramble to build on some of the discussions I've read on Twitter across the first GW of #LCFC's season. As always, feedback / support is greatly appreciated! medium.com/@dominic.wells…

GW3: Fortune of misfortune? How have #LCFC & some stand-out sides performed through the opening 3 GWs of the Championship season? TLDR: Leicester are the third-luckiest by league placement alone—this article explains how/why! All feedback is appreciated! medium.com/@dominic.wells…

What a genuinely awful team to watch. We create next-to-nothing, we lose all of our duels, players disinterested, no co-ordination. Martí’s systems are terrible, his ideas of how to control the ball are hideous. The OOP shape is non-existent, we don’t press, what do we offer?

Here it is, instead of being a ~60 tweet thread, I’ve turned it into a free article. It’s not absolutely everything, but it’s a good chunk of the game-to-game problems, with some “simple” solutions. As always, feedback / thoughts are really appreciated… medium.com/@dominic.wells…
