Never underestimate a cycle breaker. Not only did they face years of generational trauma, but they stood in the face of that trauma and said “This ends with me.” This is brave. This is powerful. This comes at a significant cost. Never underestimate a cycle breaker.

You won’t be over it, until your nervous system can regulate it. You won’t move on, until your body feels safe to. You won’t “just think positive” until your thoughts have been affirmed & you are able to heal. If it’s not trauma informed, it’s not meant to heal trauma.

I can’t place where I read it but I recently came across the sentence “trauma responses passed down through the generations can start to look like culture” and I can’t stop thinking about it

This is it, this is me

Your brain and body will fight growth and healing at every corner. Not because they are against it, but because they’ve created pathways of how to deal with being in pain. They crave familiarity. Slower and smaller changes matter. Slower and smaller choices are brave as hell.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but no matter how old you are, healing from trauma is worth it. Peace does not have an age limit.

If you believe “Family is everything” then please hold any family member accountable who abuses others. By not addressing this, your family will become nothing to those who need family most.
