Good to see research into technical interviewing: here's a recent paper by Behroozi, @chrisparnin, and @d_chrisbrown2 on the effects of conducting an interview asynchronously. chbrown13.github.io/papers/async_f…

I’m super disappointed to see leaders in this industry — who have made shit tons of money off the backs of developers — use the current economy as an opportunity to make public statements about how we don’t work hard enough, aren’t talented enough, and don’t deserve jobs.

When the 5yo asked last month what the scariest thing was for me, I kind of wearily muttered, “Responsibilities.” Now it is Halloween and he is being a creepy ghost, and sneaking up out of nowhere and whispering in my ear,“Responsibilitiessss”.

If you ask someone in your company what an incident is…and then ask 2 others, how many different answers do you get? How many google docs do you get sent?

For many, verification is the means by which they protect their identity from imposters and the like. I have no need for verification because nobody is likely to impersonate me. This is basically a protection racket. Good job.

Today will mostly consist of me alternating between singing "Anything can happen on Halloween" in my best/worst Tim Curry impression and random verses from "Werewolf Bar Mitzvah". Sorry ladies, I'm taken.

i'll be much more blunt. my dad got into a rut of layoffs later in his career. i saw what it did to him. it's demoralizing and heart breaking. don't fucking joke about it. it's not the least bit funny. this is people's lives.

Not to be a downer but I really don’t find the fake “I got laid off, was working on [controversial feature]” posts funny. I worry that at a time when a lot of people are getting laid off, actual jobseekers’ needs will be ignored because we assume it’s a meme.

Happy Tuesday! Today, we have article written by Dr. Richard I. Cook titled Above the Line, Below the Line The resilience of Internet-facing systems relies on what is below the line of representation. queue.acm.org/detail.cfm?id=…

Appreciate having @snyk around when you hear about widespread vulns like the current OpenSSL. They have a blog post with solid info and make the vuln scanning easy to know where to look. Make patching easy and teams will gravitate towards security resilience.

It seems like there are a ton of folks just lashing out at one another over some real trivial stuff. And this is the internet, so that's saying something.

MTTR is neither a measure of the reliability or resilience of your systems nor the effectiveness of your teams. Ditch it and dig deeper!

@DrRupaMarya @[email protected] In tech and engineering, that is often reinforced by a process called "root cause analysis" -- more here: verica.io/blog/inhumanit…

Hey all, my line here is "they're bringing back white supremacists and giving them blue checks", which they hit. My presence on here feels like tacit approval of such. I don't think I can stay. Going to miss a lot of you.
