Marianne Cohn, a Jewish intellectual from Germany, smuggled children out of France in 1942. Arrested on 31 May 1944 near Annemasse, she endured Nazi torture. She gave nothing of her activities away. Executed by the Gestapo on 8 July 1944 in a forest near Ville-la-Grand.
