Basically you want suburban-culdesac status for public streets in the city, near jobs and interstate exits. And you want it so you can easily drive everywhere in urban neighborhoods that have successfully blocked bike lanes and transit-supportive density.

In the 1980s-90s, GDOT widened Atlanta's Downtown Connector from 6 through-lanes to 12, then ultimately to 14. But it's still congested.

It's tempting to focus on relieving this congestion or even hiding it from view. But don't. Instead focus on building less car-centric places.
