The West African Transthyretin Amyloidosis Observatory (WATAO) shares some messages about Transthyretin Amyloidosis from a public perspective. Things to note this week are about the name Transthyretin and the initials TTR and ATTR.

The initials TTR stands for Transthyretin (TransThyRetin). Thus, the first letters of Trans from Transport, Thy for Thyroxine, and Retin from Retinol are used as the initials of Transthyretin.

Lesson 3 In lesson 2, we learned that TTR is Transthyretin. Adding "A" to TTR yields ATTR. "A" in ATTR is Amyloid. Thus, ATTR stands for Amyloid from the Transthyretin protein. In our next lessons, we will learn about Amyloid from the Transthyretin protein.
