BREAKING: Charleston’s mayor says the Calhoun statue should be taken down and moved to a local museum. The monument for the 7th VP of the US and supporter of slavery sits a block from Mother Emanuel where 5 years ago today, 9 churchgoers were murdered by a white supremacist.

Crews are still working at the base of the statue early this morning.
