Day 19 #TristanMapping landslides. It could well be our last day today as the SA Agulhas might be leaving Tristan da Cunha earlier. Neil Golding has commenced data processing with some super results already! This is the debris flow at Wash Gulch that impacted the Potato Patches
Day 20, not #TristanMapping now 🥲. Neil Golding and I are on the SA Agulhas heading off to Cape Town via Gough. Wonderful to finally get a baseline landslide dataset for the island, ground truth the geology and visit/make new buddies along the way ❤️
Welcome home to passengers disembarking the MV Lance this morning. Vital replacement C-19 booster jabs also on board & now safely on dry land. And this is the unique way it gets from ship to shore when you live on the 🌍 most remote inhabited island. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office NHS England Media
Humbled to receive an OBE🎖 from The Princess Royal today- with massive credit due to my amazing colleagues in Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and across the 🇬🇧 Overseas Territories who I am very lucky to work with. The Royal Family
We are still #TristanMapping landslides; Anna Hicks and I may have left #TristanDaCunha, but we've been busy processing and reporting🤓. This 3D model fly thru we created from 1,994 UAV images of Wash Gulch shows how the debris avalanche has impacted the Potato Patches and road.
Great to present our preliminary #drone mapping outputs from #TristanDaCunha and the #TristanLandslides project at #VMSG2023 🌋with Anna Hicks and to meet a new and welcoming group of scientists and experts 🙂 #volcanology
More outputs from our #TristanMapping #landslides project on this #FieldworkFriday. Created from 2667 aerial images captured using a DJI Air2S, Maps Made Easy & pix4d - a 3D model fly-thru up Hottentot Gulch on #TristanDaCunha. Project funded by Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office & TdC Government
Great to hear virtually from Omari Graham at #iavcei2023! A reminder of the extraordinary efforts of UWISeismic Research during the 20-21 La Soufriere eruption. A super thesis too, Omari! Wish we could've caught up in person 😔
Pleased to share our latest publication on UWISeismic Research crisis communication using #socialmedia during the 2020/2021 #LaSoufriere volcanic eruption!😎😎🌋🌋 Stacey Edwards Anna Hicks richard robertson lyellcollection.org/doi/10.1144/SP…

Rounding off our recent awards announcements - it's with great pleasure we can share that the 2024 Thermo Fisher VMSG Award has been awarded to Clive Oppenheimer (Clive Oppenheimer) for his many and significant contributions to volcanology. Congratulations to a very worthy recipient!
A rare and very special opportunity to conduct 🌍🌧️🌋and 🫂 research on the world's most remote island with me, @DJ_MacAllister Leo Peskett and Ryan Pereira iapetus2.ac.uk/studentships/u… #tristandacunha IAPETUS DTP
