Soḍḍhala, the author of the Udayasundarī Kathā (11th-Ce), called himself a Vālabhya-Kayastha while also claiming to be a Kshatriya. The members of this lineage, possibly from Vallabhi, are mentioned as early as 9th-century in the epigraphs of the Rashtrakuta king Amoghavarsha.
