I made a friend today! Her name is Billie, she's 10 months old & she's perfect. So grateful that she was rescued from an Envigo testing facility in FarmVille after investigations showed that dogs were being mistreated. You can find out more, and maybe adopt a 🐶 Virginia Coalition for Beagle Protection (VCBP)

THANK YOU! We have taken action in Virginia to hold ⁦@WeAreEnvigo⁩ accountable, but federal action would be a welcomed advancement. ⁦Tim Kaine⁩ ⁦Mark Warner⁩ Demand Immediate Action in Light of “Continued, Horrific Mistreatment” of Dogs bluevirginia.us/2022/03/senato…

My gratitude to Mark Warner and Tim Kaine for their support of efforts by my Animal Welfare Caucus to force @WeAreEnvigo to comply with Dept. of Agriculture and Virginia standards of animal welfare and to stop the ongoing cruelty at the Cumberland facility. apnews.com/article/scienc…

Joined by some four legged friends, I signed a historic package of bills that dogs and cats bred and sold for experimental purposes are protected by Virginia’s cruelty-to-animals law.

The lack of punitive action, given the gravity and number of the violations, has shocked and mystified animal welfare advocates and local politicians alike on.natgeo.com/3G8GLhy

More than 300 dead beagles, nursing mothers deprived of food for 42 hours, and puppies found stuck in waste pans below their cages—despite these and more welfare problems documented at Virginia and Indiana research facilities, the USDA hasn’t acted. nationalgeographic.com/animals/articl…

Envigo is still under a temporary restraining order until 6/13, at which time there will be a federal court hearing. The 446 beagles who were found to be in "acute distress" and were seized HAVE been relinquished, but roughly 2,660 dogs remain imprisoned at this horrid place

I’m glad that the government has stepped in following my push for accountability for the horrible conditions at the Envigo breeding facility. While it appears that Envigo plans to close its Cumberland facility, we must keep working to ensure the remaining dogs go to loving homes.

In Opinion: The beagles remaining at the Envigo breeding facility in Virginia should be made available for adoption, PETA's Daphna Nachminovitch writes. pilotonline.com/opinion/column…
